Papers of Percy J. Marks. [ca. 1850]-1941.

The collection is composed of the following items: 1. Various newspaper clippings (ca. 1930s) dealing with Australian currency and the Union Bank of Australia. 2. Book by Coleman P. Hyman, published in 1893, entitled: "An account of the coins, coinages and currency of Australasia". Interspersed between the book's pages are newspaper articles and examples of early Australian private and bank notes. 3. Photographs and glass negatives of early Australian notes and currency. 4. Album entitled: "Early Australian paper currency notes (originals and photographs) exhibited by Percy J. Marks" and the manuscript "Australian paper currencies" by Marks (NLA has 3 copies of the latter). Collection content continued: 5. Correspondence to and from various publishing houses pertaining to the publication of his manuscript. Also present are various other letters. 6. Box of medals (most from N.S.W. and Great Britain, some dating from 1878 to the First World War) and commemorative coins (one celebrating the opening of the first Federal Parliament in 1901 by the Duke and Duchess of York and another, the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge).
